Kilimanjaro Horse Safari

Kilimanajaro on your right, Giraffe and elephant on your left
The wide steppes ahead...Grab life by the reins – ride through the heart of Africa!

Imagine being on horseback in the middle of wide open savannah, beginning from Hatari or Shu'mata – with no road, fence or buliding in sight / the warm gaze of giraffes following your journey move below the snows of Kilimanjaro which glints gently in the afternoon light. Suddenly your senses are on high alert as something flits away from your silent approach – it is a magnificient oryx with her calf running to join the nearby herd – woken from their slumber beneath a large flat – topped acacia tree. A Bateleur eagle soaring high above has been keeping his beady eye on the riders as they wind their way through the bush and across dry floodplains below, past oversize termite mounds and inquisitive gazelle – on their way to a seemingly non-existent camp at the base of Africa's highest mountain - Shu'mata. There, cool drinks, a blazing fire, good food and comfortable beds await you and water and feed for the night is laid out for the horses. This is the timeless savannah nestled between Tanzania's Kilimanjaro, Meru and Longido mountains – a place made famous by Hemingway in his books “The Green Hills Of Africa” and “The Snows Of Kilimanjaro”. This is the land where the Maasai warriors still herd their cattle amongst elephant, zebra and gazelle...

Together with our partner Kaskazi Horse Safaris, the Tanzanian experts for horse safaris we go deep into the bush and together enjoy the wonders africa has to offer, the magnificient wildlife, the scenery and the magical interaction with the local tribes who inhabit these areas. All this viewed from what back in the days also used to roam wild, the horse.
